“Everything is produced for the web on the web.”
- Editor-in-chief at Le Nouvelliste, translated from French
Digitalization is not coming, it is here. Those who accept this and at least consider digital paths will work more efficiently in the long term. Meetings with just pen and paper, without a laptop and documents that can be stored in a cloud and accessed or added to by others, should be outdated – and not just in terms of the environment. Online meetings with all participants are, in many cases, more efficient than individual phone calls one after the other. Depending on the local medium, not everything has to be produced for the web and on the web, but in most cases local media have several channels that they use. Convergent thinking should be applied to the content for these channels: What can be utilized multiple times? What needs to be adapted for which channel?
Digitalization also offers new opportunities in the way local journalistic content is produced – local media have discovered the benefits of data journalism and are already using large data sets to describe local topics. In some cases, new data sets are even being created with the help of users.
