BACK TO LOCAL MEDIA

“Let’s be honest, when I go to a local newspaper […] why do I have to spend nine euros on a trial subscription? I’ll never come back to this site anyway […]”
  • In his podcast Boomercringe #3 [36:05] Jan Böhmermann gets upset about the fact that he can’t get paid content from local media more easily online, translated from German
Media consumption behavior has changed significantly with digitalization – brand loyalty and usage time are decreasing (Buschow & Wellbrock, 2020). Subscriptions often no longer correspond to the logic of this new usage behavior; it would simply be too expensive to always buy a subscription if you are only interested in one specific piece of content from one medium. For a medium to still generate revenue with its content, it is advisable to set the threshold for paid content as low as possible. In addition to subscriptions, it should also be possible to purchase individual content with just one click (e.g., via payment systems such as Twint etc.). Complicated payment processes with email confirmation etc. should be simplified.

Subscription associations of several media providers or alliances would also be an option (news flat rate).
